Statement from Chief Schenita Stewart on the Passing of Delores Holmes
EVANSTON, IL - It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to one of my heroes, Delores Holmes. Her unwavering dedication to building community partnerships and strengthening our organization has left a legacy that will be felt for generations to come.
Delores was a guiding light in my life. From childhood through adulthood, she offered me love, guidance, and support. During my most difficult times, she reached out with words of comfort and assurance. Her belief in me, her wisdom, and her steadfast encouragement are things I will carry with me forever.
To say that she will be missed is an understatement. Delores touched the lives of so many, particularly in the 5th Ward, where her impact was immeasurable. Personally, I will always cherish the profound influence she had on my life.
I will honor her memory by continuing to lead with the values she instilled in me, and by striving to carry forward her legacy of service and compassion.
Delores, your memory and influence will always be with me. I love you, and I will carry your spirit in my heart forever.
