Narcotics Investigation Results in Two Arrests
EVANSTON, IL - Detectives from the Evanston Police Department's Special Operations Group (SOG) have arrested an Evanston man in connection with the distribution of narcotics in the area of Albany Care, located in the 900 block of Maple Avenue. The arrests follow a two-month-long investigation prompted by complaints from concerned residents.
The investigation identified and focused on a suspect, Donzell Mintz. Mintz was believed to be selling narcotics in the neighborhood surrounding Albany Care. The investigation led to four controlled purchases from Mintz; two of these purchases took place during school hours within 1000 feet of Park School located in the 800 block of Main Street.
On October 10, 2024, detectives executed a search warrant at Mintz’s residence located in the 100 block of Ashland Avenue. During the execution of the search warrant, officers recovered suspected crack cocaine and approximately $200 USC. Over the course of the entire investigation, the detectives recovered approximately 25 grams of suspect crack cocaine.
While executing the warrant, officers observed three dogs in Mintz's apartment. By law, Mintz is prohibited from possessing unsterilized or vicious dogs due to prior arrests and convictions. The Evanston Animal Warden responded to the scene, took custody of the dogs, and transported them to the Evanston Animal Shelter.
During the operation, a second individual, Donta Mitchell, was arrested and charged with possession of a fraudulent ID. Mitchell was also arrested for an outstanding traffic warrant. Mitchell was not charged with narcotics offenses.
This investigation was successful due to information from the community. If you observe narcotics activity or any other criminal behavior in your community, please contact the Evanston Police Department at 847-866-5000 or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) and start the message with EPDTIP.
