The City celebrated the grand opening of the newly constructed Evanston Animal Shelter at 2310 Oakton St. on Wednesday. Cook County officials, City staff, Evanston Animal Shelter Board members, and other elected officials gathered to mark the occasion. View a live stream of the event.
Building amenities: The state-of-the-art, 8,800 sq. ft. facility significantly enhances the shelter's capacity to house and care for animals. Features include an on-site medical suite, isolation areas for sick animals, outdoor dog runs, over 20 kennels for dogs, colony rooms for cats, adoption rooms, and more. As a bonus, it has zero on-site carbon emissions!
Evanston Animal Shelter Open House: Join the shelter for a public Open House on Sun., Oct. 6 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy a tour of the building and light refreshments.

Peruse handmade goods: Check out the Maker's Market in Downtown Evanston on Sun., Oct. 6, from noon to 5 p.m. Head to the 5th Floor of the Maple Avenue Parking Garage to shop hundreds of unique and one-of-a-kind, handmade goods. Plus, enjoy free art-making and artist demos.
Tour artists' studios: Participate in Evanston Made's annual Studio Tour on Saturday and Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m. Explore artists' studios, meet artists, learn about their work, and start your art collection during this self-guided tour opportunity. View a list of participating artists.

The next Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre production, "Until The Flood" by Dael Orlandersmith, explores the social uprising in Ferguson, MO following the police shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown on August 9, 2014. The show will run from October 26 through November 10 on Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Grab your tickets today!

The City’s Streetlight Improvement Project will begin the week of October 7. Work includes replacing streetlight poles and luminaires at Church and Dodge, as well as under the Davis Street and Lake Street viaducts. Project completion is expected by November, weather permitting. Learn more.
