Fire Captain Douglas Lindstrom Retires After 22 Years of Service
 EVANSTON, IL - After more than 22 years of dedicated service, Fire Captain Douglas Lindstrom retired on September 7, 2024. Lindstrom started his career in May 2002 as a firefighter/paramedic and was promoted to fire captain in April 2014. Doug began his fire service career in 1994 as a paid-on-call firefighter at Menomonie Fire Department in Wisconsin.
Captain Lindstrom is a decorated firefighter who received the Craig Stiles Unit Performance Award. This outstanding performance award is issued to members of a company whose combined acts of bravery, dedication, and exceptional skill resulted in saving human lives or property under adverse conditions. This award is the second-highest recognition offered by the Evanston Fire Department. Additionally, Doug was awarded the Chief's Letter of Commendation and the Medical/Life Saving Award for exhibiting exceptional skill and professionalism as a paramedic. He also received the COVID Award for his bravery and steadfast commitment to providing emergency services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Doug's commitment to the profession is exhibited in his training and educational pursuits, including serving on the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division 3 HAZMAT Team and Technical Rescue Team for 22 and 20 years, respectively. Doug has taken on leadership roles as a paramedic preceptor, CPR instructor, and EFD HAZMAT Coordinator. Doug attended the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, and Columbia Southern University, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science.
"Captain Lindstrom was a dedicated 22-year veteran who took a special interest in hazardous material and technical rescue operations, not only for the department but also for MABAS Division 3 for many years," commented Deputy Chief William Muno. "With great pride, Lindstrom maintained department equipment while working tirelessly to ensure our members operated safely in hazardous environments. We wish Doug and his family a happy retirement and all the best in his future endeavors."
In retirement, Doug will serve as logistics director for the MABAS Division 3 HAZMAT Team and part-time as a firefighter/paramedic with Glencoe Public Safety.
