 Labor Day holiday weekend schedule
The City has announced facility closures and service schedules for the Labor Day holiday weekend, Sat., Aug. 31 through Mon., Sept. 2.
Refuse collection: No collections will occur on Monday. Monday through Thursday collections will be delayed by one day next week.
Beach hours: Monday is the final day of the 2024 swimming beach season. Check the City's website for swim and beach status updates before you head to the lake. Please be aware that the latest forecast for winds and waves Sunday morning into Labor Day on Monday may cause high waves and potentially life-threatening currents in Lake Michigan.
 Back-to-school block party, September 5
Celebrate the back-to-school season at the 'Kits, 'Cats and Kids Block Party on Thurs., Sept. 5, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event will be held adjacent to ETHS's Lazier Field, at Church Street and Hartrey Avenue.
Free outdoor activities for all ages: Enjoy games, music, inflatables, the ETHS and NU marching bands, a rousing pep rally, and plenty of delicious food truck options!
 The first-ever Evanston Folk Fest is almost here!
Hosted by Evanston SPACE, the first-ever Evanston Folk Festival is coming to Dawes Park on September 7-8! Celebrate the rich folk music tradition that has guided SPACE since 2008. Enjoy performances from artists like Katie Gavin (MUNA), Sierra Ferrell, and Patty Griffin. Plus, catch some special after-shows at SPACE and Cahn Auditorium.  Funding Boost for Greener Buildings
The City of Evanston has been selected as one of 19 communities to receive a $10.7 million Inflation Reduction Act Support for Building Energy Codes and Innovative Codes grant from the U.S. Department of Energy!
What will this funding support? This funding will support adopting and implementing building performance standards to reduce building emissions while prioritizing equitable decision-making, ongoing affordability, workforce development opportunities, and energy cost savings. Learn more.

The City received over 70 requests related to tree issues and damage following the intense storm on Tuesday night. Public Works crews worked through the night and all day yesterday to ensure our streets, sidewalks, and alleys were clear and safe. Thank you to all the staff who put in extra hours to assist with the cleanup.

House on the move!
On Mon., Sept. 9, ETHS will move a two-story home from 1600 Dodge Ave. to 1319 McDaniel Ave., starting at 9 a.m. The house was built by students in the ETHS 'Geometry in Construction' course, which is part of a collaboration with the City and Community Partners for Affordable Housing. Expect parking restrictions and minor delays along the route.

Flag-tastic Friday: Dawes Elementary Celebrates Young Designer!

On Friday, the Mayor and District 65 staff, teachers, and students came together for a Flag Raising Ceremony at Dawes Elementary School. The ceremony celebrated second-grader Bernie Allen-Harrah and her winning city flag design from last year's Mayor's Youth Flag Redesign Contest.
