Proactive Patrol Leads to Arrest, Weapon Recovery
EVANSTON, IL - On August 19, 2024, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Evanston Police officers were conducting proactive patrols in the area of the 1600 block of Foster Street. This area has experienced recent incidents involving firearms. During their patrol, officers observed several individuals that appeared to be smoking cannabis in or near a vehicle parked at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center.
In response to their observations, the officers initiated a street stop to investigate further. During the investigation, one of the subjects, later identified as Robert Milam-Pryor, fled the scene on foot. The officers immediately gave chase and were able to apprehend Milam-Pryor after a foot pursuit that covered several blocks. During his flight, Milam-Pryor discarded a loaded Glock 43 handgun, which was subsequently recovered by the officers.
Milam-Pryor was transported to the Evanston Police Department, where further investigation revealed that he did not possess a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) Card or a Concealed Carry License (CCL).
The investigation was reviewed with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the State’s Attorney approved a felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
