 National Night Out is on Tuesday!
Join the Evanston Police and Parks & Recreation Departments in celebrating National Night Out on Tues., Aug. 6, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Centennial Park. This family-friendly evening will include food trucks, games, a movie, and giveaways!
What's National Night Out? This annual community-building campaign promotes public safety, community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie to help make our neighborhoods safer, and more caring.
Enjoy a Starlight Movie: The featured movie, PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie will begin at 6 p.m. Remember your blankets and chairs!

Let's keep our recycling clean and green!
Once a year, City staff conducts "cart tagging" to help households keep non-recyclable trash out of recycling bins. This year's audit included the Monday collection route. Read an article in the Roundtable featuring Solid Waste Coordinator Brian Zimmerman and review the 2024 Cart Tagging Report to learn about contaminants found in recycling carts this year.

Construction roundup
Greenleaf/Hartrey Sidewalk and Streetlight Improvement Project: Construction work is scheduled to begin the week of August 5. The work will include installing new sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, updating crosswalks, and more! Learn more.
Road resurfacing project: The City has contracted road resurfacing work on seven street segments throughout Evanston over the next ten weeks. Phase 1 will begin the week of August 5. More info.
📢 Deadline Approaching for Cultural Heritage Awards!
The Preservation Commission is accepting nominations for the new citywide Cultural Heritage Awards Program. This initiative celebrates a broader view of historic preservation, including living heritage, the arts, and intangible cultural heritage. Submit your nominations by August 16.
Potential North Shore Channel bike trail?
The Wilmette Park District has partnered with the City of Evanston to evaluate the feasibility of a potential future trail connecting the Sheridan Road bike lanes to the North Shore Channel Trail at Green Bay Road. Share your thoughts in a community survey, open through August 15.
Celebrate National Black Business Month with the library
All through August, visit the Evanston Public Library to pick up a punch card, visit at least five participating local Black-owned businesses for a punch, and get entered into a raffle for a $50 or $100 gift card. More info.

Evanston Fire Department maintains top fire protection rating

The Evanston Fire Department announced today that the department's fire protection services were awarded the highest possible rating from the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO). The department received a Class 1 designation award through its Public Protection Classification (PPC) program, which assesses communities' fire protection efforts. The Evanston Fire Department has secured this elite rating since 2018.
