City Receives GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
EVANSTON, IL - The City of Evanston received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its fiscal year 2024 budget, with particular acknowledgment for performance measures.
The GFOA award is a national recognition. Out of over 1,700 communities across the nation acknowledged each year with the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, only between 20-30 communities are honored with this recognition. Performance measures must emphasize results and achievements rather than inputs and should be closely tied to the department’s goals and objectives.
The GFOA award reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves in the following areas:
- A policy document
- A financial plan
- An operations guide
- A communications device
