Chicago Man Arrested with a Handgun and Narcotics
EVANSTON, IL - On July 14, at 02:40 a.m., officers responded to a call reporting a person shot in the alley behind Tally Ho, located in the 1900 block of Howard Street, Chicago, IL. The caller provided a description of a suspect.
Upon arrival, officers located Garnett Pruett, who matched the description provided. During the investigation, officers conducted a pat-down search and discovered two loaded Glock .45 caliber magazines, along with approximately 19 grams of suspected crack cocaine on Pruett's person. Pruett was placed under arrest.
Further investigation led officers to a nearby red Chevrolet Equinox, which was also searched. Inside, a .45 caliber Glock handgun equipped with a switch was recovered. Switch refers to a modification that alters the firearm's capability, enhancing its firing rate or functionality beyond manufacturer specifications.
It was determined that Pruett did not possess a Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) Card or a Concealed Carry License (CCL). He admitted to possessing the Glock recovered from the Equinox. The investigation was reviewed by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, which approved a felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
