Alexandra "Alex" Ruggie, Corporation Counsel
EVANSTON, IL - On Monday, July 8, City Manager Luke Stowe announced Alexandra ‘Alex’ Ruggie as the City of Evanston's Corporation Counsel.
Mrs. Ruggie graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago Law School with a focus on trial advocacy after earning her Bachelor's degree from Beloit College. She has been an esteemed attorney for the City of Evanston for over eight years and is currently the longest-serving member of the City's Law Department. As an Assistant City Attorney, Ms. Ruggie focused on representing the City in litigation, with increased attention to land use matters. Ms. Ruggie was appointed Interim Corporate Counsel in August 2023, after serving as Deputy City Attorney previous to that in January 2023.
“It is with great pleasure that I acknowledge the valuable contributions that Alex has made to our City as Interim Corporation Counsel. Her vast experience and knowledge have been instrumental in providing guidance and ensuring that the City operates transparently and in compliance with the law,” said Stowe. “Alex's unwavering commitment to carrying out legal processes and procedures with care is highly appreciated. I look forward to continuing our work together as we strive to provide our government with effective and prudent guidance on behalf of Alex,” he added.
Outside of her professional commitments, Mrs. Ruggie is a devoted family person who is married and has two children. She finds joy in exploring new places through travel and is an avid reader, always seeking to broaden her horizons. These personal interests reflect her curiosity and passion, which undoubtedly contribute to her success in her professional role. Additionally, Mrs. Ruggie is a former 8th Ward Evanston resident.
