Evanston Police Department Announces Independence Day Enforcement Numbers
Evanston, IL - The Evanston Police Department issued 52 seat belt citations during the recent Independence Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” safety campaigns.
EPD also took the following enforcement actions:
- 1 child safety restraint citation
- 27 distracted driving citations
- 21 speeding citations
- 13 assorted moving and non-moving citations
- 7 no insurance citations
- 1 suspended license arrest
- 1 no valid license arrest
The Evanston Police Department joined forces with more than 200 other state and local law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for impaired drivers, encourage seat belt use, and enforce speeding and other traffic laws. The effort featured high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities including a media campaign titled, “It’s Not a Game.”
The enforcement period was funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
