Arrest Made in Michigan Avenue and Kedzie Street Robbery
EVANSTON, IL - On June 24, 2024, at approximately 9 p.m., a robbery occurred in the area of Michigan Avenue and Kedzie Street. The victims, a male and a female, were approached by a male offender who handed them a note demanding their wallets and cellphones. The offender implied he had a gun by lifting his hoodie and exposing his waistband. The female victim did not have a wallet or cellphone, but the male victim handed over his wallet and cellphone to the offender. The offender then fled on foot.
On June 25, 2024, at approximately 1:20 a.m., officers patrolling the 600 block of Oakton Street observed a subject attempting to open car doors. The officers attempted to stop the subject, who fled on foot but was quickly apprehended after a short struggle with officers. The suspect, identified as Kyle Knight, was found in possession of a loaded handgun, a 9mm Bryco, and items taken in the earlier robbery.
Knight was transported to the police station where the investigation continued and he was interviewed. He admitted to possessing the handgun and being present during the robbery at Michigan Avenue and Kedzie Street. The investigation revealed that Knight did not have a FOID Card or a Concealed Carry License.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the investigation and has approved felony charges against Kyle Knight for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Aggravated Robbery.
