 Get a sneak peek of the newest community center
Join the Evanston Parks & Rec team on Sat., June 22, for a preview of the brand-new South End Community Center, located at 430 Asbury Ave. The open house will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come by and discover the exciting plans we have for South End!
What to expect: The open house will feature critter visits, preschool tours, boccia demos, a Ninja course, and open play sessions. There will also be dedicated sensory-friendly experiences from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Cinema under the stars: Head to Lovelace Park for a movie night on Sat., June 22. The featured film will be "Turning Red (2023)", a family-friendly movie about the struggles of navigating the changes of adolescence. The movie will begin at 7 p.m.
Let's get funky!: Join us at the Robert Crown fields on Tues., June 25, for a Starlight Concert featuring the band Chicken Bone. Dance along to cover songs from the 60s through today. Sponsored by Evanston SPACE, the concert will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Celebrate Independence Day on July 4 🎆
The Evanston Fourth of July Association will once again host its annual 4th of July Celebration on Thurs., July 4. Enjoy a parade along Central Street, a Kids' Fun Run, games and activities, a concert, and fireworks along the lakefront. Former Councilmember Robin Rue Simmons has been named this year’s Grand Marshal to underscore the celebration's 2024 theme, "Seeds of Change," exemplifying a commitment to growth.
 Get out and enjoy the weekend with local events!
Evanston Garden Walk: Join in, rain or shine, for a walk through some of the most creative, beautiful, and personal gardens Evanston has to offer. This annual event will take place on Sun., June 23. Purchase a ticket to view the garden map.
Summer Solstice Jam: Sponsored by Climate Action Evanston and hosted by Evanston Parks & Rec, the Summer Solstice Jam will take place on Fri., June 21, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Arrington Lagoon. This free, family-friendly event will include music and fire artistry by Chicago Full Moon Jam.
"1619: The Journey of A People": The Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre has kicked off its 2024 season with "1619: The Journey of A People - A Musical", by Ted Williams III. Shows take place on Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. through June 30. Get your tickets today!

"Evanston Recycles" is coming up on July 6
The City will host its annual "Evanston Recycles" event on Sat., July 6, from 9 a.m. to noon at Evanston Township High School. This free “drive-up, drop-off” event provides residents an opportunity to recycle electronic waste, unused prescription medication, expired over-the-counter drugs, and securely shred documents.

There's still time to participate in the Evanston Public Library's summer Film It! Challenge for students in grades 5th through 8th. Learn filmmaking and editing skills, see your movie on the big screen, and win prizes. Films are due by July 7. Visit filmitchallenge.org for more details.

 It’s the official first day of summer! We’re hosting a Community Photo Contest to capture the season’s beauty. Send us your favorite photos that capture the soul of Evanston in the summer. Photos will be selected by our Communications Division to be posted on our Instagram page.
Email entries to communications@cityofevanston.org with the photographer’s name. Make sure to send high-res .jpg or .png photos.
