To honor and celebrate the Class of 2024, Northwestern University is hosting a fireworks display at approximately 8:45 p.m. this evening. The fireworks display was originally scheduled to be launched from a barge on Lake Michigan. Due to the recently announced Beach Hazards Statement from the National Weather Service, the fireworks will now be launched from the southernmost edge of the Lakefill on Northwestern University’s property. The fireworks display is expected to last about 20 minutes.
The nearby Clark Street Beach will be closest to the fireworks display, so an influx of fireworks attendees is expected. We anticipate additional cars and traffic in the immediate vicinity.
Please note there will be an increased presence of first responders to assist in the event.
All swimming beaches will remain open until 8 p.m. today. For any inquiries, please contact the police non-emergency line at 847-866-5000. In case of an emergency, please dial 911.
