Fourth Ward News and Meeting Reminder
Dear Fourth Ward friends and neighbors,
Please join me for the May ward meeting tomorrow, Tues., May 6, at 7 p.m., either in person at the Robert Crown Community Center, or online via Google Meet.
The featured topic will be Economic Development, the fifth in a series examining the six City Council goals. We’ll be joined by three guests: Paul Zalmezak, the City’s Economic Development Manager; Katherine Gotsick, Director of the Main Dempster Mile; and Andy Vick, Director of Downtown Evanston. They’ll be sharing exciting news about what’s happening around town. It’s going to be a fun summer!
Also on the agenda for tomorrow is a report on the 4th Ward resident survey conducted earlier this year. Does the community support the City Council goals? What do people like about our neighborhood? What do folks think the City can do better? Come find out tomorrow!
I’ll give you a hint on at least one response to that last question: pedestrian, bike, and traffic safety was frequently listed as a concern. Based on that survey feedback and also on what I and other Councilmembers have been hearing from constituents, three of us are planning a special joint ward meeting devoted to those topics. Save the date: Thursday, May 30, 7 p.m. at the Robert Crown Center. Councilmembers Harris (2nd Ward), Geracaris (9th Ward), and I are co-hosting.
One last thing: Main Street businesses are still open! The streetscape project is coming along, but the lane closures are tough on the merchants. Please make an extra effort to drop by, maybe on May 16 for the Arts and Craft Beverage Crawl (see below.)
Hope to see you tomorrow!
Jonathan

Fitzsimons Park Fun!
Thank you to all the neighbors who came out Fitzsimons Park on Sun., April 21 to pitch in with cleanup and bench painting. We had a blast and the park looks a lot better. A special thanks to Evanston Lumber (material donation), Nina Tatarowicz (concept and organizing), Ellie and Ezra Shevick (concept, organizing, primer coat, garage staging, bench demo and installation) and Joyce Elias (decorative painting manager).
 Happy Asian American Heritage Month!
The 2024 Umbrella Arts Festival, a celebration of Asian American art, food music, dance, and culture, is going to be huge! Twice the number of artists and vendors, new performers, and it’s free for all ages. More information.

Evanston Arts & Craft Beverage Crawl
Once again, the Main-Dempster Mile is joining forces with Evanston Made to host the Evanston Arts & Craft Beverage Crawl. The event will celebrate Evanston artists and regional craft beverage makers. One hundred percent of profits from the Arts & Craft Crawl will be donated to Evanston Made, whose mission is to create awareness and visibility for Evanston-based artists.
During the event, local businesses will host special one-night-only art exhibits in their stores and serve tastings of locally made craft beverages. Guests can purchase tickets, then check in on the night of the event to get a map of events and a wristband. Wristbands entitle ticket holders to enjoy free tastings inside local businesses. Tickets are $30 online, $39 at the door the night of the event. Anyone can enjoy the art for free.
