 A look back at 2023...
Check out Evanston's 2023 Annual Report, showcasing the City's significant achievements and initiatives throughout the past year.
In the transformative year of 2023, Evanston charted a course toward a sustainable, inclusive, and forward-thinking future. Initiatives like participatory budgeting, guaranteed income, and reparations reinforced the City's commitment to community-led and progressive governance.
Main Street Corridor Improvement Project kicks off in early April
The City will begin the final phase of its Main Street Corridor Improvement Project in early April, aiming to finish by late September, weather permitting. The project involves curb/gutter replacement, road resurfacing, streetscape enhancements, and more, helping to beautify the business district, boost pedestrian safety, and improve traffic flow.
Support Main Street businesses: While necessary, construction can be a challenging time for local businesses. Make sure to head to Main Street throughout the summer to show the businesses some extra love.
Touch a Truck on Main Street: Before construction kicks off, the Main-Dempster Mile invites families out for a "Touch a Trunk" event at Train Station Alley on Fri., March 29, from noon to 2 p.m. Kids will enjoy supervised climbs on some of the City's biggest working trucks! Toy hard hats will be given to guests while supplies last.
Measles Update
Both Chicago and the U.S. continue to see additional measles cases. There are now 15 confirmed cases in Illinois, all of them in Chicago. Nationwide, there have been 58 cases reported so far this year - the same number that was reported for all of 2023.
The Evanston Health and Human Services Department asks residents to confirm they are up-to-date on their measles vaccinations. Please call your doctor or look up your record in the state immunization registry using Vax Verify. If you can't find your record, consider getting a dose of MMR vaccine as soon as possible to ensure you are protected if exposed.
