 The City will be offering four grant programs in 2024 to help assist small businesses. Below you will find eligibility and application information for each program.
New Small Business Recovery Program
Launching on Wednesday, Feb. 14, the new Small Business Recovery Program is designed to protect Evanston’s small business economy and aid in their recovery from the sustained negative economic impacts of the pandemic. City Council approved a $250,000 allocation from the $3 million Evanston Thrives implementation funding to create this program.
Businesses who were open and operating on or before March 13, 2020, are eligible for up to $25,000 for approved expenses.

Sustain Evanston Program
The City has relaunched its Sustain Evanston Program, a funding initiative designed to support small businesses in implementing sustainable practices that align with the City's Climate Action & Resilience Plan (CARP). This program will not only help businesses reduce their operating costs but will also enhance their ability to serve customers with eco-friendly solutions.
Evanston-based businesses are eligible for up to $25,000 to fund approved projects such as renewable energy systems, electric appliances, composting or recycling services, reusable containers, green infrastructure, and adoption of EVs and EV charging infrastructure.

Storefront Modernization Program
The Storefront Modernization Program is a funding tool to assist small business owners improve the appearance and functionality of commercial buildings located in the city's business districts. The City will provide a rebate of 50 percent of the total cost of qualifying interior (if located in a TIF district) or exterior improvements, up to $10,000.

Entrepreneurship Support Program
The Entrepreneurship Support Program is intended to assist in the growth of jobs in Evanston through entrepreneurship, helping residents and local business owners to create jobs by starting and retaining sustainable small businesses.
Business who have been operating for two years or less, including pop-ups and home-based, are eligible for up to $5,000. Funds can be used to cover operating expenses, equipment, licensing fees, and other eligible expenses.
