 Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Celebrate Dr. King’s legacy at Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre's annual event on Sat., Jan. 13, at Noon. Head to the Fleetwood-Jourdain Center to enjoy community performances from the Evanston Children’s Choir, 1619: The Journey of a People, Gracie Puricelli, and more! Plus, enjoy a keynote speech from Pastor Carlis L. Moody, Jr.

Explore opportunities: Youth ages 14 to 18 can find positions with the City, local organizations, and businesses through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program. Register today for the MSYEP Job Fair on February 17 at the Robert Crown Community Center.

How to submit: Email entries to communications@cityofevanston.org with the photographer's name. Please send high-resolution, .jpg or .png photos.
Winning photos: Photos will be selected by the City's Communications Division to be posted on the City's Instagram page through February.

There's life after the holidays for trees and lights
What to do with holiday trees: City crews will pick up holiday trees for recycling on Tues., Jan. 2 through Fri., Jan. 26 on residents' regular refuse pickup days. View tree pickup guidelines.
What to do with burned-out bulbs: Holiday string lighting and extension cords can be dropped off for recycling at the Levy Center, Ecology Center, and Robert Crown Community Center through January 31.
Mobile DMV and RTA Mobility Services event
Join Senator Fine and Representative Gabel on Sat., Jan. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Levy Senior Center for a Mobile DMV and RTA Mobility Services event. Receive assistance with Driver's License and State ID renewals, update your vehicle registration sticker, and learn about accessible public transit options. Registration is encouraged.

Adoptable Pet of the Month: Diamond
 Meet Diamond, a playful 45-pound bundle of joy. She loves walks, naps, and playing with rope toys. Diamond comes with a decent amount of training (sit, down, and rollover) and is eager to learn more. Plus, she gets along well with kids, cats, and dogs. What more could you want?
Diamond is even a TV celebrity. She was recently featured live on WGN! Interested in meeting her? Fill out an Adoption Questionnaire at the Evanston Animal Shelter.
