The holiday fun continues...
Celebrate Kwanzaa: Monday, Dec. 26, marks the first day of Kwanzaa. Join us for a community celebration at the Robert Crown Center, beginning at 6 p.m. Enjoy an Artisan Marketplace, food, an African Drum Circle, arts & crafts, and a performance of 'A Poetic Kwanzaa.' The event will conclude with the traditional first day of Kwanzaa ceremony and candle lighting.
Elves are on the loose: The elves have run off and are hiding around Evanston community centers and parks. Help track them down! Find each elf, snap a photo with them, and email us your photos by December 28 to be entered into a raffle to win prizes. More info.
There's life after the holidays for trees and lights!
What to do with holiday trees: City crews will pick up holiday trees for recycling on Tues., Jan. 2 through Fri., Jan. 26 on residents' regular refuse pickup days. View tree pickup guidelines.
What to do with burned-out bulbs: Holiday string lighting and extension cords can be dropped off for recycling at the Levy Center, Ecology Center, and Robert Crown Community Center through January 31.
 Spreading holiday joy (and toys)
Last week, the City distributed more than 400 bags of food, and 700 toys and books to Evanston community members in need as part of the Mayor's Holiday Food, Book, and Toy Drive! Plus, $25 Evanston gift cards were given to youth, and $50 grocery gift cards were distributed to each participating family. A big 'thank you' goes out to those who donated this year and to the many staff and volunteers who helped make this happen.
