Sharing our Library Love
-A message from Yolande Wilburn, Executive Director
Evanston Public Library
|
As the newly appointed Executive Director of the Evanston Public Library, I am honored to champion the enduring values that make EPL a sanctuary for diverse ideas and a welcoming haven for all Evanstonians. My passion for libraries has found a new home at EPL, and I am eager to lead our organization into a future filled with promise.
It is hard to believe that in 2024, as a nation, we continue to confront challenges to literary freedom and the injustice of book censorship. At EPL, we are committed to facilitating access to the vast array of ideas that constitute the rich tapestry of our diverse world.

I am proud to have made my first donation to EPL in support of this year’s Reimagine Campaign. In 2024, the Board of Trustees and I will work together on a new strategic plan to set the direction for EPL for the coming years. Much of this work has already started, and I’m excited to include feedback from our previous community listening sessions and hear for myself from our community.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude and season greetings to the community, from our Board of Trustees and dedicated staff, to the youngest participants in our storytime sessions. Each of you plays a vital role in building and expanding access to resources and materials at EPL, and we look forward to continuing to welcome you in 2024.
As we celebrate the great work of the past year and welcome in a new chapter, I invite you to join me in reimagining how our Library serves our community and sharing our Library Love.
Be part of the conversation! Share your thoughts, concerns and ideas by emailing me at ywilburn@cityofevanston.org. Also, Library Board meetings are the third Wednesday of every month and open to the public. You can join us virtually or in person at any of our meetings. The schedule can be found here.
Please join me and make your contribution to the 2023 Reimagine Campaign today. With only two weeks left in the year, we still have some work to do to meet our goal - every gift matters. If you have already stepped forward with a donation, we thank you! If you haven't donated yet, please take a moment and make a gift that is meaningful to you. Help us start 2024 strong!
Thank you.

For 150 years, the Library has provided educational, culturally-rich resources for all residents, helped children prepare for school through the joys of reading and learning, celebrated Evanston’s diversity, and helped residents find information they seek. The Library is more than a building of books; it is a place to meet, connect, learn, and explore. To learn more, visit www.epl.org.
