Evanston Police Commander Graduates from the NUCPS School of Staff and Command
 EVANSTON, IL - On December 1, 2023, Commander James Pillars graduated from the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety's (NUCPS) School of Police Staff and Command as part of class #561. The School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC) is an intensive 10-week program that prepares law enforcement managers for senior positions by uniquely combining academic principles with practical applications. Since the program launched in 1983, the SPSC has received enthusiastic response from executives and participants throughout the country. The program focuses on the following areas:

- Contemporary Policing
- Decision Making and Problem Solving
- Employee Relations
- Evaluating Products and Services
- Executive Image
- Grant Writing
- Human Resources
- Leadership and Management
- Media Relations
- Organizational Behavior

Commander Pillars is a 20-year veteran of the Evanston Police Department. Commander Pillars started his career as a patrolman, and prior to his 2017 promotion to sergeant, he was assigned to the department's Community Policing Unit and Neighborhood Enforcement Team.
