Skokie Man Charged in Four Bomb Threat Incidents
 EVANSTON, IL - Four bomb threats were reported to the Evanston Police between September 12 and October 3, 2023. The first took place at the Evanston Public Library on September 12. Police responded after library staff received a bomb threat via email. Both library branches were evacuated, and with the assistance of a Metra Police K-9, the buildings were searched. There were no explosive devices found, and there were no injuries.
The target of the second threat was, again, the Evanston Library. On September 14, a threat was received via email. Both branches were evacuated and searched with the assistance of the Cook County Bomb Squad. There were no explosive devices found, and there were no injuries.
The third bomb threat was on October 2, at McDonald's in the 1900 block of Dempster Street. Evanston Police Communications received a 911 call that claimed there was a bomb at the McDonald’s. The officers responded and searched the restaurant for explosive devices. No devices were found, and the restaurant remained open.
The fourth bomb threat was on October 3, again, at McDonald's in the 1900 block of Dempster. Evanston Police Communications received a 911 call that claimed there was a bomb at the McDonald’s. The officers responded and searched the restaurant for explosive devices. No devices were found, and the restaurant remained open.
The investigation into these incidents identified the offender, Jacob Spiro. On November 17, 2023, Spiro surrendered himself to Evanston Police. He was taken into custody. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office reviewed the investigation, and they approved four counts of felony disorderly conduct.
At this time, there are no additional charges expected for other bomb threat incidents.

Spiro has not been detained by Cook County. He is scheduled to appear in court today, November 27, at the Skokie Courthouse.
