Good afternoon,
Read below for information on how to compost your Halloween pumpkins, fall cleanup reminders, a roundup of community events, and more!
Spare Your Pumpkins: Compost, Don't Ghost
Rescue your Halloween pumpkins and jack-o’-lanterns from withering on the front porch by dropping them off to be composted at the 8th annual “It's the Great Pumpkin Compost” Collection event this Sat., Nov. 4, 9 a.m. to noon, at the Morton Civic Center parking lot. Download the poster.
Did you know? Food waste, including plain, clean pumpkins, can also "ride along" in food and yard waste carts with grass clippings and leaves.
Recycle those wrappers: Once the Halloween treats have been gobbled up, help save the empty candy wrappers from the landfill by recycling them at the Trash or Treasure™ box located at the Evanston Ecology Center through November 22.
Be-leaf it or not, winter is around the corner
As leaves continue to fall, residents are reminded about seasonal services and cleanup activities:
Additional Fall Street Cleaning: Dates are planned for residential streets in November and early December to clear debris before winter. Street signage is posted and the schedule can also be viewed online. Need a reminder? Sign up for text message or email parking notifications.
Food and Yard Waste Pickup: The final week for 2023 food and yard waste pickup will be December 4-7. Food and yard waste is collected on residents’ normal refuse pickup day.
Winter Gap Composting Program: Enroll in Collective Resource Compost's 16-week Winter Gap composting program, beginning the week of December 4 and ending the week of March 25.
Leaf Blower Reminders: The use of gas-powered leaf blowers is prohibited in Evanston. Electric-powered leaf blowers are allowed for use year-round, during specified times. As a reminder, please don't blow or rake leaves into the street, it is illegal and can block sewers, causing flooding.

Trunk-or-Treat Roundup
Our Parks & Recreation Department held their annual Trunk-or-Treat event at the Robert Crown Community Center on Friday. A variety of community organizations and City divisions/departments participated by “dressing up” their vehicles in costumes for Halloween. We loved having all of the Evanston families come out in costume to trick-or-treat with us!
That’s it for today's e-news. Thanks for reading!
Sincerely,
The City of Evanston Communications Team
