Evanston Police Warns Public of a Traffic Ticket Scam
EVANSTON, IL - The Evanston Police Department is warning the public about a traffic ticket scam. Several citizens have reported receiving phone calls from Sergeant Sophier with the Evanston Police Department about traffic tickets they need to pay or be arrested. When the target of the scam has attempted to disengage the scammer, the scammer calls from a spoof number mimicking the US Marshal's Service or City of Evanston 3-1-1. The scam calls have been placed from 312-353-5290. When this number is called, the call goes to the voicemail of a scammer posing as Sergeant Sophier.
This call is a scam and is not affiliated with the Evanston Police Department. Do not provide these callers with financial information, and do not agree to meet them. If you have fallen victim to this scam, you can call the Evanston Police Department to make a report at 847-866-5000.
