Zombie Scramble - Sign up before it's too late!
The Zombie Scramble is back on October 21! Join your family and friends to complete a 2-mile course through the Ladd Arboretum, Butler Park, and Twiggs Park, as you try to avoid roaming "zombies." The event is for ages 8 years and up. To register, visit cityofevanston.org/register.
Final First Friday event of the season
Visit Mason Park tonight, Fri., Oct. 6, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to enjoy the final First Friday event of the year featuring free food, music, outdoor games, and more. Community organizations will also be on-site to provide information about available resources for youth and families.
Starlight Movie at Ingraham Park on Saturday
Gather your family and friends to enjoy the film "Minions: The Rise of Gru" at Ingraham Park on Sat., Oct. 7, starting at 7 p.m. Don't forget to bring your lawn chairs and blankets!
Night Hike
Face your fears tonight, Oct. 6, on this family-friendly, fall night hike through the Ladd Arboretum! Test out your nighttime senses, learn about often misunderstood nocturnal creatures, check out bones and natural artifacts, and meet some critters that have inspired urban legends. Then, join us around the campfire for s’mores! Children need to be accompanied by an enrolled adult. To register for this program, please call the Ecology Center at 847-448-8256 or register online.
Seniors, walk right in!
The Secretary of State's Office has opened a new, walk-in "Senior Only" DMV service temporarily housed in Room G300 of the Morton Civic Center. Seniors will not need appointments, as this walk-in center is specifically designed to meet their needs.
The Big Gross Out
Nature can be gross but awesome! Join us tomorrow, as we make pumpkin slime, investigate bugs under logs, dissect owl pellets, and learn about animal scat (poop). Visit our worm farm and take home a (fake) “bird poop” painting. If you like to explore and get your hands dirty, this is the program for you. Do you participate in the Access Evanston Program?
If so, you qualify for a lower water and sewer rate! Income-qualified residents can access reduced water and sewer rates. Enroll by providing your recent W-2 and lease (for renters) at participating community centers.
October Science with Seniors
Each month, graduate students from Northwestern University visit the Levy Senior Center to discuss different science topics. This month, they will be discussing the topics of Lunar Rovers on Thurs., Oct. 12, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is required by calling the Levy front desk at 847-448-8250.
Fall Forest Therapy: Nature Meditation & Mindfulness Walk
Embrace autumn with a forest therapy walk in the Ladd Arboretum! Join Certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide, Sarah Abu-Absi, as we learn about the practice of Forest Therapy. We will connect to nature and ourselves in ways that support healing and wellness. Please bring a blanket, mat, or chair to sit or lay on. Art Gallery Opening at Noyes Cultural Arts Center
Come out to Noyes Cultural Art Gallery on Friday, Oct. 13, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to see "Charcoal,Tower and Lightness" by three local Evanston artists.

Family Campfire - "Campfire Stories"
Enjoy a mid-October evening with stories and s'mores around the campfire! Join the Ecology Center at the Lighthouse Beach fire circle, as we listen to nature-themed campfire stories, make s’mores, and participate in fall-themed activities. Pies for Parks
Come get to know the Evanston Parks Foundation on October 14, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Walk through the Noyes Cultural Arts Center to see all of the pie contest entries or head outside to play at Talmadge Park. We will have booths with craft projects, sensory play, and games. Enter a 50/50 raffle to benefit the Evanston Parks Foundation's efforts to make parks and programs more accessible to all residents. Free to attend, $25 to enter pie!
Fall Leaves
Come to the Ladd Arboretum and join us in a scavenger hunt to find all the different fall leaves that the Ladd Arboretum has to offer! Participants will learn to identify different leaves, learn about the science of leaf color change, and discover what makes each fall color special. They will also head home with a leaf craft. Fleetwood-Jourdain Presents "Family Sneaker Ball"
Your presence has been formally requested! Dress to impress this fall at the Family Sneaker Ball! On Sun., Oct. 15, bring out your finest clothes and your most comfortable sneakers! Dance the night away with your family and create very special memories. Registration closes on Tues., Oct. 10, at 5 p.m. You do not want to miss out on this! Register in advance.
Super Senior Day, October 27
Super Senior Day is coming to the Levy Senior Center on Fri., Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Secretary of State's mobile unit will be doing vision testing, renewal of state ID as well as drivers license. They are taking appointments for the REAL ID. To make an appointment, you must register in advance by calling the Levy front desk at 847-448-8250.
Special Event: Nightmare on Foster St.
Bring the entire family out for spooky, scary, candy-filled fun at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center. Join in on Fri., Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. Wear your costumes and join us for a horrifying night on Foster St.
Calling all Businesses/Organizations - Trunk or Treat
Come celebrate the Halloween season with the City's Parks and Recreation Department. We're seeking businesses and organizations with unique and decorated vehicles to provide treats, games, and fun for children of all ages. Sign up today by scanning the QR code or by following this link.
Bug-A-Boo
Join the Ecology Center for our annual Halloween event! We will highlight the creatures that call the North Shore Channel home. You'll meet these costumed characters outside as you travel along the nature path in the arboretum. At the end of your walk, you are invited to make s’mores, play games, dance to some festive music, and take home a Halloween craft. Please register all attending family members. Dia De Los Muertos at Levy Senior Center
The City’s Parks and Recreation Department is excited to host the final Starlight Concert of the 2023 season. This event features the musical group, Mariachi Sirenas! Come out to the Levy Senior Center on November 5 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. to celebrate Dia De Los Muertos! Before the Mariachi Sirenas performance, there will be arts and crafts projects such as a DIY shoebox ofrenda.
