City Joins GFOA's Innovative "Putting Assets to Work" Initiative
EVANSTON, IL - The City of Evanston will participate in the Government Finance Officers Association's (GFOA) "Putting Assets to Work" (PAW) initiative following the program's successful pilot phase last year. In this second cohort, Evanston joins five other cities from across the U.S.
PAW, spearheaded by Ben McAdams, a former U.S. Congressman and GFOA Fellow, aims to help empower local leaders to unlock the hidden potential within their communities. "PAW is about helping local leaders uncover the real and significant value that may be hiding in plain sight. Every local government holds immense amounts of property, structures, and other assets that they may not know how to fully utilize or, in some cases, may not even realize they own. PAW is a process where we help them understand exactly what they have, what it's worth, and how that value can be utilized for any number of local priorities,” explains McAdams.
Cities that were included in the first cohort of PAW, which launched in summer 2022, are already beginning to realize new revenues and other community benefits, including affordable housing, clean energy, criminal justice innovations, infrastructure, and other high priorities.
"We’re looking forward to participating in this innovative 6-month program. By utilizing data and informed analysis, we’ll evaluate the full potential of our City assets and plan how best to use them to meet our community’s unique priorities," said City Manager Luke Stowe.
The PAW initiative is supported by Urban3 and Common Ground Institute. For additional information, please visit GFOA.org/PAW or call/text 847-448-4311. For convenience, residents may simply dial 3-1-1 in Evanston.
