Evanston Police Conducting Investigation After Fatal Traffic Crash
EVANSTON, IL - On Tuesday, August 15, at approximately 9:36 p.m., the Evanston Police and Fire Departments responded to the 1300 block of Central Street for a report of a traffic crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Preliminary reports from witnesses, as well as interviews conducted by police, indicated the vehicle was traveling east along the 1300 block of Central Street. At the same time, the pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadway mid-block from the north to the south side of the street.
The driver of the vehicle, a 65 year-old resident of Skokie, was not injured, and he remained at the scene. The driver is cooperating with the investigation, including submitting to all requested chemical tests. He displayed no outward signs of impairment. The pedestrian was transported to Northshore University Healthsystems Evanston Hospital where she was pronounced deceased at 11:00 p.m. She was identified as 60 year-old Rabia Ahmad of Lincolnwood, Illinois.
The NORTAF Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was activated to assist the Evanston Police Department's Traffic Bureau with this crash investigation.
