9th Ward Meeting & News
Summer is in full swing and I hope you all have been able to enjoy some of the community events offered in Evanston. The Starlight Movie Series continues on National Night Out on August 1 with Wonder Woman. I will be there, so stop and say hi if you see me.
Summer is construction season in the Midwest and Evanston is no different. Thank you for all your patience as the City works to make important infrastructure improvements. West 9th Ward residents might have noticed the new fence east of Aldi on Hartrey Ave. Aldi has been a great partner listening to community feedback and putting the fence in place.
Rat Walk
Rodent control is an area of concern for many residents and in the past year the City has brought its pest control operations in house. Data has shown that our response time to issues has improved and we are better controlling infestations when they happen. I have scheduled a Rat Walk with City staff to tour and educate myself and residents on how we are handling these issues. We will be meeting at 9 a.m. on Tues., Aug. 1 on the corner of Grey Avenue and Keeney Street.

National Night Out is August 1
Participate in the City’s National Night Out (NNO) celebration taking place on Tues., Aug. 1, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Centennial Park.
This annual community-building campaign promotes public safety, community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to help make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.
The City’s Parks & Recreation Department and Evanston Police Department have partnered to host this family-friendly evening. Attendees will enjoy an obstacle course, food trucks, games, and a movie.
The featured movie, Wonder Woman, will serve as a tribute to all of the special women who are heroes in our community every day, including our Evanston Police Chief Schenita Stewart. The movie will begin at 6 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to wear Wonder Woman attire to the event and to bring a chair, blanket and snacks to enjoy the movie.
Evanston Parks & Green Space Strategic Plan Public Workshop #1
The City is developing a Parks & Green Space Strategic Plan to inform future policies and projects for your local parks, playground, natural spaces, and beaches.
Join us for our first public workshop on Thurs., Aug. 3, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Robert Crown Community Center. This workshop will be a chance for you to tell us about the parks you visit, the events you participate in, and your visions for the City’s park system over the next ten to twenty years. As a part of the workshop, the City will share the plan's analysis and early findings from a community survey. Visit the project website for more info.
