![Smoke](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/ILEVANSTON/2023/07/7916610/smoke_original.jpg) The National Weather Service has issued an Air Quality Alert, based on an Air Pollution Action Day declared by the Illinois EPA, for the Evanston area through midnight tonight, Sun., July 16. A similar alert is expected for tomorrow. Smoke from wildfires in Canada has moved into the region, pushing the AQI over 150 and into the unhealthy or worse categories. Air Quality Index forecasts and levels can be found at airnow.gov.
Active children and adults especially people with pulmonary or respiratory disease such as asthma should avoid long or intense outdoor activity. Everyone else should reduce outdoor activity.
The National Weather Service has also urged residents to reduce pollution levels. Air quality forecasts and tips on how you can reduce your emissions can be found at airnow.gov.
