The National Weather Service has issued an Air Quality Alert, based on an Air Pollution Action Day declared by the Illinois EPA, for the greater Chicago area through midnight tonight, Wed., June 28. Smoke from wildfires in Canada has moved into the region, pushing the air quality into the unhealthy or worse categories. Air Quality Index forecasts and levels can be found at airnow.gov.
Active children and adults especially people with pulmonary or respiratory disease such as asthma should avoid long or intense outdoor activity. Everyone else should reduce outdoor activity.
The National Weather Service has also urged residents to reduce pollution levels. Air quality forecasts and tips on how you can reduce your emissions can be found at airnow.gov.
