Evanston Police Increase Security for This Year's 4th of July Celebrations
EVANSTON, IL - The City of Evanston and Evanston Police Department have performed a comprehensive review and update of resource deployment for large-scale events. Some resource deployment goals include security and violence prevention.
The safety and security for this year’s Fourth of July Parade and fireworks display will be enhanced due to these efforts. Parade and fireworks display attendees will notice the following:
- An increased visibility of police presence, with a thoughtful approach to officer assignments.
- Heightened security at intersections along the parade route. The City and Evanston Police Department will use a combination of staffing, vehicles, and barricades to increase protection of the parade route, participants, and spectators.
- Civilian K-9 patrols. The department will be partnering with a vendor, Global K-9 Protection Group, that will search the parade route for suspicious items and devices.
- Drone flights. The department will have a drone team at the events.
Some operational improvements will not be visible, such as a dedicated command post for each event and rapid response units.
Information and updates about events, traffic, and emergencies will be disseminated on the Evanston Police Twitter Account @EvanstonPD.
