City to Begin Asphalt Pavement Sealing and Rejuvenating the Week of June 15
The City will begin sealing and rejuvenating areas of asphalt pavement at 11 locations throughout Evanston the week of June 15, weather permitting. This project is estimated to take eight to ten days to complete and seal approximately 32,000 square yards of pavement.
Work involves spraying a clear liquid sealant on the street which penetrates, rejuvenates, and seals the asphalt surface and binder, helping to lengthen pavement life and seal it against water infiltration. Once the sealant has been applied, a coating of limestone screenings will be spread for traction while the material is absorbed. The street sweeper will then sweep the limestone.
Drivers can expect brief street closures in specific work zones as work crews apply the sealant/rejuvenator. The street will open for traffic approximately one hour after all steps of the application are finished. "No Parking" restrictions, which will be posted 48 hours in advance, will be short in duration and specific to each work area. The work in each location is anticipated to take two to four hours to complete.
