Skokie Man Charged with UUW and Cannabis Offenses
 EVANSTON, IL - On June 3, 2023 at approximately 9:50 p.m. Evanston Police Detectives were patrolling in the area of Foster Street and Ashland Avenue when they observed a maroon Kia. The driver of the Kia and a passenger were not properly wearing their seatbelts. Detectives then stopped the Kia as it was backed into a parking spot in the 1400 block of Foster Street.
Detectives made contact with the driver, Nathan Norman. During the initial conversation with detectives Norman stated that there was some cannabis in the vehicle. During the investigation detectives learned that Norman had a warrant for his arrest. Norman was arrested for the warrant and during a search of his person detectives recovered a loaded Sig Sauer 9mm handgun in his waistband.
Based on the recovery of the handgun and the admitted presence of cannabis in the vehicle the detectives expanded their investigation. The investigation revealed that a 15 year-old male passenger had a loaded Ruger .357 handgun in his waistband. The handgun was recovered and the 15 year-old Evanston resident was taken into custody.
Detectives searched the vehicle and recovered a cross-body bag that contained six individually wrapped zip-locked bags containing suspect cannabis. The weight of the cannabis was approximately 30 grams. The weight and the manner of packaging was consistent with cannabis sales and distribution.
The investigation revealed that Norman did not have a FOID card or Concealed Carry License. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office reviewed the investigation and approved a felony charge for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Norman was also charged with felony possession of 10-30 grams of cannabis with intent to deliver.
The 15 year-old was referred to juvenile court for unlawful use of a weapon. There was a second passenger that was released without charges.

Court Information
Norman received a $25000D bond. His next court date is June 27 at the Skokie Courthouse.
