City to Begin Construction on a New Animal Shelter in June
With the support of a grant from Cook County Animal and Rabies Control, the City has contracted for the demolition of the existing Evanston Animal Shelter building and construction of a new animal shelter at 2310 Oakton Street beginning in June and continuing through March 2024.
The new facility will include twenty kennels to house dogs, cat colony rooms, a medical suite, five outdoor dog runs, a food pantry, adoption rooms, cat and dog grooming equipment, a community room, and LEED Silver certification. All electric mechanical systems with ensure the facility has zero on-site carbon emissions.
Construction activities may create some inconveniences for adjacent businesses and residents along Oakton Street. Attempts will be made to minimize these issues.
