Evanston Police Investigate Bomb Threat at Downtown Business
EVANSTON, IL - On Monday, May 22, at 11:39 a.m., an employee of Whole Foods, located at 1640 Chicago Avenue, called police after receiving a phone call stating a bomb had been placed inside the store. Police immediately responded and all patrons and employees were evacuated from the location. Additionally, road closures were put in place on Chicago Avenue and Church Street, restricting traffic flow into the area of Whole Foods.
Evanston police personnel secured the immediate area around the store and asked for mutual aid from the Cook County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad. A K-9 dog/handler team arrived and conducted a sweep of Whole Foods, ultimately rendering the location safe. At 1:22 p.m., the scene was released and all traffic restrictions were lifted.
