Bird Watching Basics
Calling all beginner birders! Join us in discovering which birds are stopping by Evanston this spring. We will go on a walk through the Arboretum and practice using binoculars, the eBird app, and NestWatch to identify the birds that we spot. Binoculars will be provided. Children need to be accompanied by an enrolled adult. To register for this program, please call the Ecology Center at 847-448-8256 or register online.
Garden Club
It’s springtime in the Ecology Center's Farmette! Join us after school on Tuesdays to work the soil, set roots, and get growing in our urban garden. Participants will learn from the Community Garden Coordinator how to grow produce in the Farmette and will explore the surrounding prairies, food forest, apiary, and arboretum. To register for this program, please call the Ecology Center at 847-448-8256 or register online.
World Migratory Bird Day
Come celebrate World Migratory Bird Day in Evanston with two events at the Ecology Center! On May 13, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. there will be a family-friendly hike to identify as many birds as we can along the Ladd Arboretum and North Shore Channel. We will also look at bird-related artifacts to learn about their behaviors and physical adaptations. To register for this program, please call the Ecology Center at 847-448-8256 or register online. From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. there will be a free Field Museum presentation at the Ecology Center about local birds and their use of our waterways, as well as an announcement of Evanston's new Bird City Illinois designation.
Fran Randall Concert at the Levy Senior Center
The Levy Senior Center Foundation is proud to bring the talents of young, award-winning classical musicians to the Levy Senior Center. The outstanding lineup continues to honor the memory of Fran Randall who loved classical music and played an important role in opening the current center. The concert will be on Fri., May 19 at 1:30 p.m.
Wild Weekends
Come to the Ecology Center for a live animal presentation! We will be partnering with wildlife conservation organizations to meet a variety of awesome and often misunderstood creatures and learn about the important roles they play in their native habitats. Join us early at 6 p.m. for activities with the animal presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. To register for this program, please call the Ecology Center at 847-448-8256 or register online.
