Handgun Magazine Recovered at Lincolnwood School

EVANSTON, IL - On April 18, 2023 at approximately 9:15 a.m. Evanston Police responded to Lincolnwood School located in the 2600 block of Colfax Street for a recovered handgun magazine. Upon arrival officers learned that an eight year-old male student had informed a teacher that he had a loaded handgun magazine in his school bag. The magazine was recovered and District 65 placed the school on lockdown.

Evanston Police and District 65 officials participated in the investigation. The school was checked for firearms, none were located. The investigation revealed that the magazine was from a handgun that belonged to a family member. That handgun has been turned over to the Evanston Police. There were no threats to the school and the investigation did not reveal any intent by the juvenile to cause harm. 

The juvenile was released to his family. Due to his age he will not be referred to Juvenile Court. The family is cooperating with the continuing investigation.
