Evanston Police Release Name of Homicide Victim
 EVANSTON, IL - On April 12, 2023 at approximately 8:10 p.m. Evanston Police responded to the 1800 block of Sheridan Road, Clark Street Beach, for a call of shots fired. When officers arrived they located three gunshot victims.
- Jacquis Irby, an 18 year-old male resident of Skokie - deceased
- One 15 year-old male resident of Skokie - remains hospitalized in critical condition
- A second 15 year-old resident of Skokie - suffered a graze wound and has been released from the hospital
Detectives from the Evanston Police Department and North Regional Violent Crimes Task Force arrived on scene to investigate. The initial investigation revealed there were two small groups of people in a verbal altercation outside the entry to Clark Street Beach. The altercation escalated with at least one offender firing a handgun into the group containing the victims. The offenders immediately fled to a vehicle and left the area.
The investigation indicates this was not a random act and the participants in the altercation knew each other. The victims were not associated with Northwestern University.
The Department did not issue an order to shelter in place because responding officers determined this was not a random act and not an active shooter incident. Northwestern University did issue an order to shelter in place. Please contact Northwestern Global Marketing and Communications for inquires about their shelter in place order.
The crime scene around Clark Street Beach has been released. Evanston Police will be deploying additional resources to Evanston beaches through the weekend.
There are no offenders in custody. The Evanston Police Department and the North Regional Violent Crimes Task Force continue the investigation.
