9 Displaced During Structure Fire in 1700 Block of Hartrey
EVANSTON, IL - On Saturday, February 18, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Evanston Firefighters responded to reports of a house fire in a multi-family residence at 1719 Hartrey St.
Fire companies arrived within minutes, reporting nothing showing from the street. Upon entry to the residence, moderate smoke and fire conditions were noted on the second floor. The response was immediately upgraded to a Working Fire, bringing in additional resources to assist with on-scene operations and fire investigation.
Due to a quick and aggressive interior attack, the fire was extinguished within less than 20 minutes by the first arriving companies. Moderate smoke and water damage resulted in the displacement of all residents within the building. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Several occupants were able to evacuate before the arrival of fire companies, while four residents had to be escorted from the structure by fire crews. No civilian injuries were noted. One firefighter was injured and offered medical care on-scene, denying medical transport.
Due to smoke and water damage, nine residents and one dog were displaced from the structure. The American Red Cross was called to assist the displaced residents and animal, offering shelter and wrap-around services.
