Dear 8th Ward Residents,
I would like to invite you to our monthly 8th Ward meeting on Thursday, February 23, at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held virtually via Google Meet.
Joining Info
On the agenda for this month's meeting, we will have the following:
-
A presentation from Councilmember Reid and Economic Development Manager Paul Zalmezak about the $100,000 City allocation for the Mulford Viaduct Art Park project
-
A discussion with Public Works Director Edgar Cano about community concerns around trash collection, forestry, speed bump installation, street and parkway maintenance, alleys, lead service lines, and the planned storage facility
-
A check-in with Vicky Pasenko from the Evanston Animal Shelter regarding the facility’s proposed multi-million dollar renovation
-
A public safety discussion with Community Policing Officers Brooks and Galindo
-
An open forum for City and ward issues raised by residents
This is a great opportunity for you to voice your concerns and share your ideas for our community. Your participation in ward meetings is vital to shaping the future of our community. There are many voices and perspectives missing at our meetings and I need your help to change that! I strongly encourage you to attend, ask questions, and share your thoughts and ideas. Further, I ask that you send a personal invite to a neighbor or neighborhood group by sharing the meeting agenda and joining info.
Please note: in an effort to respond to resident requests for increased meeting accessibility this meeting will be recorded by Otter.ai which will use AI to produce meeting minutes. These minutes will be made available to residents to ensure everyone has access to the information discussed at our meetings. As a reminder, our ward meetings are held on the last Thursday of the month.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out via email at dreid@cityofevanston.org.
I hope to see you at the meeting!
Provide your input on shoreline repairs
We're seeking community input as we continue long-term planning for potential improvements to lakefront parks and shoreline.
Take a survey: Review design options and amenities and provide your feedback by taking our survey, open through February 22.
Attend a public meeting: The City will hold a second public meeting regarding the project on Wednesday, March 8 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Robert Crown Community Center.
 ‘Safe Gun Storage Saves Lives’
The City has partnered with Moms Demand Action Evanston to connect residents with life-saving information and free gun locks donated by Project ChildSafe as part of the “Safe Gun Storage Saves Lives” campaign.
Where to pick up a gun lock: Stop by the Fleetwood-Jourdain or Robert Crown community centers, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to pick up a lock. No questions asked.
Why use a gun lock: Research shows secure storage practices play a vital role in reducing the risk of gun violence.
Apply for a Cultural Fund Grant
The Evanston Arts Council is encouraging individual artists, non-profits, and community organizations to apply for up to $4,000 to support specific cultural programs and/or general operations as a part of the Cultural Fund Grant program. The application portal will remain open through April 1.
Questions? Attend a free, virtual information session on either Wednesday, March 1 or Tuesday, March 21. View meeting details.
