Read below for information about a new gun safety campaign, ways to provide input on potential lakefront improvements, fun festivities in February, and more.

 Provide your input on shoreline repairs
We're seeking community input as we continue long-term planning for potential improvements to lakefront parks and shoreline.
Take a survey: Review design options and amenities and provide your feedback by taking our survey, open through February 22.
Attend a public meeting: The City will hold a second public meeting regarding the project on Wednesday, March 8 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Robert Crown Community Center.
Use caution when traveling today and tomorrow
Our Public Works Agency is anticipating up to two inches of wet, slushy snow today, with the majority expected to fall in the late afternoon and evening hours. Staff will be working to maintain safe roadways throughout this event.
Slush, snow, and then ice: Falling temperatures overnight could create icy conditions, so please use caution when walking or commuting on Friday morning.
Do your part: Help all community members travel safely by clearing sidewalks of snow and ice.

‘Safe Gun Storage Saves Lives’
The City has partnered with Moms Demand Action Evanston to connect residents with life-saving information and free gun locks donated by Project ChildSafe as part of the “Safe Gun Storage Saves Lives” campaign.
Where to pick up a gun lock: Stop by the Fleetwood-Jourdain or Robert Crown community centers, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to pick up a lock. No questions asked.
Why use a gun lock: Research shows secure storage practices play a vital role in reducing the risk of gun violence.
 Apply for a Cultural Fund Grant
The Evanston Arts Council is encouraging individual artists, non-profits, and community organizations to apply for up to $4,000 to support specific cultural programs and/or general operations as a part of the Cultural Fund Grant program. The application portal will remain open through April 1.

 Fun festivities in February
Don't let the cold weather get you down, there's plenty to do around town!
Get hygge with Downtown Evanston: Embrace the cozy throughout February by taking a creative class, enjoying a warm meal, and exploring downtown cafes and restaurants as a part of Hygge Fest.
Dine out for Restaurant Month: Support our local eateries and enjoy tasty dine-in and takeout offers from dozens of Evanston establishments.
Visit the Black History/My History exhibit: Curated by Fran Joy, this exhibit is available for viewing in the Noyes Second Floor Art Gallery through April 10. Head to the Noyes Cultural Arts Center tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 17 at 4 p.m. to enjoy the opening reception (.JPG).
Attend a film screening: Evanston Pride is partnering with Unity On the North Shore to co-host a lunch, screening and discussion of "The Big Payback" on Sunday, Feb. 26. The film chronicles Evanston's passage of the first tax-funded reparations for Black Americans. Reserve your spot.
COVID-19 Update
Cases: Evanston reported 65 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to 66 for the week prior. The current seven-day moving average of daily confirmed cases is 9.29.
COVID-19 Community Risk Level: LOW.
Hospitalizations: View local COVID-19 hospitalizations.

Last chance to appeal your property tax bill
The deadline to appeal your property tax bill is February 17. For assistance appealing, the City's Property Tax Assessment Review Office is accepting walk-in visits tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 17 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

As part of its "Right Tree, Right Place" program, ComEd will be managing vegetation along power lines in several Evanston locations over the next few months.

Reduce lead hazards in your home
The City's Health & Human Services Department and Cook County Department of Public Health are providing lead hazard reduction at no cost to residents or property owners. Complete this survey to determine eligibility.
Support earthquake survivors
Northwestern's Turkish Student Association is holding a donation drive (.PDF) for earthquake survivors in Turkey and Syria. Urgently needed items, including baby supplies, hygiene care, and first aid, can be dropped off at Scott Hall and Alice Millar Chapel through Feb. 25. Learn more.
CTA and Pace launch new unlimited-ride passes
Beginning February 20, all newly purchased passes, including 1-Day and 3-Day unlimited-ride passes will be accepted on both the Chicago Transit Authority system and the Pace bus system.

Congratulations to Darrell King, Illinois ‘Water Professional of the Year’
 The City's very own Water Production Bureau Chief Darrell King has been named the Illinois Sector American Water Works Association (ISAWWA) Water Professional of the Year!
Turning on the tap: Darrell oversees production and distribution of high-quality, reliable drinking water to nearly 500,000 people and 60,000 businesses in Evanston and nine other communities.
Supporting our youth: Since 2015, Darrell has helped water utilities throughout Illinois develop “Water Operator In Training” programs, providing high school students with an opportunity to earn course credit while gaining hands-on experience in the field of water production.
