Evanston Police Investigate February 12 Shooting
 EVANSTON, IL - On February 12, 2023, at approximately 4:10 p.m. the Evanston Police Department responded to the area of Ashland Avenue and Payne Street for a shooting. Responding officers were able to take the suspect, a 66 year-old male resident of Gurnee, into custody. The victim, a 39 year-old male resident of Wheeling, suffered a minor hand injury. The victim is not hospitalized. Responding officers recovered a firearm.
The initial investigation revealed that the motive for the shooting was an alleged financial deal gone bad. While both the victim and suspect were standing in the parking lot of the Evanston Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, the suspect produced a firearm. The suspect fired two rounds at the victim while a struggle over the gun ensued. The victim and the victim's brother were able to subdue the suspect. Other than the victim's minor injury, no one else was injured in this incident.
The Evanston Police Department Detective Bureau is investigating. It is expected charges will be finalized today. A media update is anticipated on February 14.
