Getting the lead out. The City has taken several initial steps towards replacing existing lead service lines in Evanston, including:
-
Launching a Lead Service Line Replacement workforce development program, hiring and training Evanston residents in the skills needed for lead service line replacement and street restoration
-
Providing no-cost replacement of private-side lead water service lines to 150 households in 2023 through a new pilot project
-
Replacing an additional 160 lead service lines in 2023 in conjunction with the City’s 2023 Water Main Replacement Project
Winter safety: Stay off lakefront shelf ice
With shelf ice forming along Evanston beaches and the lakefront, please stay safe and enjoy the winter landscape from the sand or solid ground.
Walking or climbing on shelf ice is extremely dangerous for people and pets, as holes in the ice can easily be covered by snow. If you fall in, getting out of the water can be nearly impossible. View shelf ice graphic.
