Talking about race with kids is hard. Let our librarians help.
Talking to kids about race and racism can be hard, but it's essential -- children make their own meaning when adults around them are silent. EPL’s Dedicated to the Dream program is an invitation for curious families to grow together in racial literacy through family-friendly, hands-on workshops. Each workshop incorporates art and play to affirm all shades of skin, explore cultural and racial identities, learn accurate history, and talk about the content and feelings that come up.
The first workshop is Saturday, Jan. 21, and this year we have new format options to give busy families more ways to participate. If you've ever felt stuck talking to kids about race and identity, Dedicated to the Dream is for you and your family.
SUPPORT EPL
The Library is everywhere you are. Give now and help us share resources throughout Evanston.
The Evanston Public Library is not just a special place in our community, but a vital resource for so many people, and it’s all made available for free. Unfortunately, the Library’s expenses are not covered by taxes alone, and we are funded at about half the rate per capita as neighboring libraries. In order to continue offering all of EPL’s amazing programs and services and grow our capacity to offer even more, we must increase philanthropic support. A gift of any size makes a difference -- please consider donating today.
WITH OUR PARTNERS
This winter, EPL's Robert Crown Branch is partnering with the Main-Dempster Mile to bring you our Winter Storywalk featuring a special guest star! The Storywalk features an original story split into 12 parts, and each part of the story can be read at one of our 12 participating businesses. Now through Jan. 7, grab a raffle ticket, answer all the questions, and return it to the Robert Crown branch for a chance to win a $50 gift card to a participating store.
