Celebrate the holiday season in Evanston
Get in the holiday spirit with events and celebrations for the whole family!
Support local businesses: Get a jump start on your holiday shopping with great deals and unique gifts from local Evanston businesses on Small Business Saturday this Sat., Nov. 26! Check out promotions in Downtown Evanston, on the Main-Dempster Mile and on Central Street.
Flip the switch: Bring your families downtown to watch the annual tree lighting with Mayor Biss, Santa and other special visitors on Sat., Dec. 3 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Enjoy holiday performances by Evanston Children's Choir, NU Purple Haze and a brass quintet.
A very historical holiday: Join the Evanston History Center for their Holiday Open House on Sun., Dec. 4, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Dawes House is decked out for the holidays so stop by to take a self-guided tour, enjoy holiday music, and more! RSVP to attend.
Sounds of the season: A cherished annual tradition, Rembrandt’s Holiday Baroque returns to Evanston on Sun., Dec. 4 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Alice Millar Chapel at Northwestern University. Enjoy Baroque favorites that will capture the spirit of the season. Purchase tickets today!
Say bye to burned out bulbs
Starting Thurs., Dec. 1, you can drop off holiday string lighting for recycling at the Evanston Ecology Center, Levy Senior Center, and Robert Crown Community Center. Garlands, live greens and wreaths are not accepted.
Help make everyone's holiday merry and bright!
Give back this holiday season by donating new, unwrapped toys, children's books, and non-perishable staple food items as part of the Mayor's Holiday Food, Book and Toy Drive. The donation drive runs through December 9.
Fifth Ward Campus Community Meeting
Attend an informational meeting on Tues., Dec. 6, at 6 p.m., at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center to share your thoughts on proposed site concepts for District 65’s new 5th Ward school and the future of the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center.
COVID-19 Update
Cases: Evanston reported 101 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to 111 for the week prior. The current seven-day moving average of daily confirmed cases is 14.43.

Hospitalizations: View local COVID-19 hospitalizations. To date, Evanston has had 17,399 total confirmed cases, and 157 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19. View the City’s interactive COVID-19 dashboard (view on mobile).
Stay up to date on your COVID vaccines
Everyone 5 years and older is strongly encouraged to stay up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines. Contact your local pharmacy or primary care physician to get your updated Pfizer or Moderna bivalent booster, or visit vaccines.gov to schedule an appointment. If you’re homebound due to a medical condition or are otherwise unable to visit a provider, complete the City's In-Home Bivalent Booster Vaccination Survey.

Property Tax payments are due December 30
Cook County’s Second Installment property tax bills have been posted at cookcountytreasurer.com, where bills can be viewed, downloaded and paid. Bills will also be mailed to property owners by the end of the month.
Food and yard waste collections end December 8
The final week for seasonal food and yard waste collections is December 5 through 8. Want to keep composting this winter? Sign up for Collective Resource Compost's Winter Gap program.
Register your pet by December 30
2023 pet registration is due Fri., Dec. 30. Registering your dog or cat will increase the chance of being reunited in the event that it becomes lost, and also serves as a reminder to renew its annual rabies vaccination.
EPD hosts annual Gun Buyback event
The Evanston Police Department is hosting a Gun Buyback event on Sat., Dec. 3, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1113 Clark St. Residents are encouraged to turn in unwanted guns and ammunition in exchange for cash.

Wishing you a happy and delicious Thanksgiving!
Refuse collection: No refuse collections will occur on Thurs., Nov. 24. Thursday's trash, food and yard waste and recycling collections will occur on Fri., Nov. 25.
Holiday parking: Thanksgiving is a City parking holiday. As an added bonus, through January 2, the City has provided local businesses with 2-hour free parking vouchers to give to customers, encouraging shopping local this holiday season.
