Evanston Police Announces December 3 Gun Buyback Event
EVANSTON, IL - On December 3, 2022, the Evanston Police Department will be partnering with the Evanston Community Foundation and Mount Zion Baptist Church to host a gun buyback event.
With community safety being the goal and priority, the gun buyback event allows residents to turn in unwanted guns. An unwanted gun is at an increased risk of being stolen and used illegally. It is also an opportunity for at-risk community members to turn in guns and turn away from criminal activity. This event is amnesty based which means that no arrest will be made for those turning in guns.
The event is open to residents of Evanston, Skokie, Wilmette, and the northside of Chicago and residents must show an ID at the door. The event will take place at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1113 Clark Street in Evanston from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
Please note:
- Weapons should be UNLOADED and transported in a case, box, bag or vehicle trunk.
- This event is first come, first served.
- Compensation is $125 per gun and $30 for ammunition and bb guns.
Guns that are turned will be destroyed in accordance with local and federal guidelines.
