Ecology Fall Speaker Series: Our Relationship with Water
The Evanston Ecology Center is hosting a Sustainability Speaker Series this fall season! Each month, we will learn about a different local topic that is relevant to Evanston and surrounding communities. We will start by learning about our relationship with water. Where does the water in our faucets come from? Where does it go once we are "done" with it? And how can we take actions to better care of our water resources and the animals and plants that depend on it?
Saplings & Oaks
Join Saplings & Oaks, an 8-week early-childhood class where children and caregivers learn about the natural world together! Through exploring the Lighthouse Beach habitats, reading nature-themed stories, making art, and imaginative play, children and caregivers will learn about the end of summer and the wonders of fall. For more information, please call the Ecology Center at (847) 448-8256.
Outdoor Explorers
Join Outdoor Explorers, an active 5-week after school program on Wednesdays at Lighthouse Beach. Participants will work as a team, explore the different ecosystems of Lighthouse Beach, and learn new outdoor skills each week. Call the Ecology Center to sign up today at (847) 448-8256.
Zombie Scramble
The Zombie Scramble is back on October 22! Join your family and friends to complete a 2-mile course through the Ladd Arboretum, Butler Park, and Twiggs Park, as you try to avoid roaming "zombies." Register by September 26 to receive the early bird fee of $20 for residents and $30 for non-residents and to be guaranteed a Zombie Scramble t-shirt. T-shirts (guaranteed for early bird registrations), food, and s'mores are included. The event is for ages 8 years and up. To register, please call the Ecology Center at 847-448-8256. A course map and more information about the event can be found at cityofevanston.org/zombiescramble.
Ladd Arboretum Fall Stewardship Series
This fall, the Ecology Center is partnering with stewardship and urban forest experts to lead classes in the Ladd Arboretum! Participants will learn about the North Shore Channel Habitat Project, how to calculate the benefits of trees in their neighborhood, how ecosystems can be restored, how to landscape with native plants at home, and how to identify and remove invasive species. To register, please call the Ecology Center at 847-448-8256.
