Evanston Police Train to Identify and Address Potential Threats, Increase Community Safety
 EVANSTON, IL - In an effort to be better prepared in identifying and addressing potential public threats, the Evanston Police Department has recently attended two training sessions with the goal of ensuring community safety.
On August 12, 2022, members of the Evanston Police Department attended Threat Assessment Training. The training was presented by the U.S Secret Service and The United States Attorney's Office.
Two presentations made up the training. One presentation was made by the National Threat Assessment Center. This presentation consisted of best practices in the field of threat assessment and applying a multidisciplinary approach to identify, assess, and intervene with individuals exhibiting concerning behaviors. The second presentation was made by the Critical Protective Analysis Group and was an analysis of terrorist trends and tactics.
On August 23, 2022, the Evanston Police Detective Bureau received Firearms Restraining Order (FRO) training from the Illinois Attorney General's Office. An FRO is an important tool for helping law enforcement and families to collaborate and prevent gun violence.
An FRO restricts access to firearms, ammunition, and firearm parts for those who exhibit conduct that suggests they have an elevated risk to harm themselves or others, especially family members. Detectives received instruction on the two types of FROs, how to petition for an FRO, and what evidence is required for the issuance of an FRO.
