Luke Stowe appointed Evanston City Manager
In a unanimous vote, Luke Stowe was appointed as Evanston's City Manager at a special City Council meeting on Tuesday.
Luke Stowe has been interim city manager since July 12. Before that, he served as interim deputy city manager since February 2022, overseeing several City departments and divisions. He has over 25 years of local government experience including 10 years with the City of Evanston. Learn more about Luke!
Community events happening this weekend!
Evanston Art & Big Fork Fest: Throughout this three-day event, art lovers will have the opportunity to see masters at work with live art demos and one-on-one booth chats! Head to downtown Evanston August 19 through 21 to enjoy food, art and music in the streets.
Disco in the Park: Join the Levy Senior Center and local DJ Michael Stinson as he plays your favorite 70's disco music. Disco in the Park will take place at the James Park soccer field on Fri., Aug. 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs, friends and beverages!
"Exceptional Black Muses": Enjoy a musical journey celebrating the accomplishments of Black female musicians from the early 20th century to present day. Purchase your tickets to see this all Black women's string quintet at Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre on August 20 & 21.
Starlight Movies in the Park: The Starlight series continues this week with a showing of Ghostbusters Afterlife on Sat., Aug. 20, 7 p.m., at James Park (Dodge Ave. and Mulford St.).

Guaranteed Income Pilot applications now open
The City and Northwestern have partnered to launch a Guaranteed Income Pilot Program, which will provide 150 households in Evanston with direct monthly financial assistance for one year.
Eligibility: Participants must live in Evanston in a household whose income is at or below 250 percent of the Federal Poverty Line and fit into one of the following groups: individuals ages 18 to 24 years old, individuals ages 62 years and older, and undocumented community members.
How to Apply: The application period will be open through August 29. Visit cityofevanston.org/gi to apply!

COVID-19 Update
Cases: Evanston reported 74 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to 119 for the week prior. The current seven-day moving average of daily confirmed cases is 10.57.

To date, Evanston has had 16,024 total confirmed cases, and 155 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19. View the City’s interactive COVID-19 dashboard (view on mobile).

Monkeypox Update
As of today, Illinois is reporting 734 Monkeypox cases, of which 584 including 30 hospitalizations are from Chicago. Evanston is reporting seven cases and no hospitalizations at this time. While anyone can become infected with Monkeypox, the transmission and outbreaks have mainly been found in patients who identify as gay, bisexual, or other men who have sex with men.
To learn more about Monkeypox symptoms, prevention, isolation, how it spreads and the current criteria for vaccinations for Evanston residents, please visit the City's website.
No mass vaccination events have been scheduled at this time for community members or staff. While any person can get Monkeypox, the vaccine is not recommended for the general public at this time.

The ADA Transition Plan Update, which will enhance accessibility throughout the city well into the next decade, is almost complete! The City is seeking your input to finalize the plan. Please review and comment on the ADA Transition Plan Draft by September 2.

Evanston was visited by International Visitor Leadership Program delegates
Yesterday, members of the Evanston Reparations Committee met with 22 delegates through the International Visitor Leadership Program of the U.S. Department of State, hosted by WorldChicago.
The delegation is focusing on examining the historical roots of racial inequality, particularly for Black people in the U.S., and exploring best practices in providing equal access to education, economic opportunity, healthcare, and equal justice for members of minority communities. They will be analyzing civil rights advocacy strategies and how they successfully work with media, social influencers, and government to prioritize and address issues of racial and social justice.
