Traffic Stop Leads to Recovery of a Glock 9mm Handgun, UUW Arrest
EVANSTON, IL - On July 29, 2022, at approximately 7:45 p.m. Evanston police officers were on patrol in the area of Dodge Avenue and Mulford Street when they observed a white BMW failure to signal for a turn when required.
The officers stopped the vehicle on the 400 block of Dodge Avenue. One of the officers made contact with the driver, Lanseal Swaby. While speaking to the driver the officer asked Swaby if there were any weapons inside the vehicle. Swaby informed the officer that he had a handgun inside a cross body bag.
The bag containing the handgun was within Swaby's reach. Upon learning of the handgun, the officer asked Swaby to exit the vehicle. Swaby complied and walked to the rear vehicle. The officer then recovered a loaded 9 mm Glock 19 handgun from the bag. Swaby was then placed in custody and transported to the Evanston Police Department.
The investigation revealed that Swaby had a FOID card, but no CCL. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office reviewed the case and approved one felony count of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Click here for a photograph of the recovered weapon.
